WATCHMEN video blog #4: Dave Gibbons tours the set
Dave Gibbons. The artist has become one of the most celebrated comic book and graphic novel artist of the time and for good reason. In this 4th video blog from WATCHMEN, Gibbons takes us along with him to tour the highly detailed and retro set for the film. This particular video wasn't posted on the official site and I'm not sure why. UGO brings us this one though and it's definitely incredible. He speaks of how naturally they translated the colors on the page to the screen even though the colors are unnatural themselves. We also get our first few moving shots of Rorschach. If I don't get some DARK KNIGHT soon, I'm going to stab myself in the face with a pencil !!
No need to panic, the TDK thirst has been quenched by these TV spots, foreign language television promos and Comic Con footage, at least for another day or so. I'm keeping the sharpener close by just for good measure, or would it be bad measure?

THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL trailer; previously titled SPEED 3: IF THIS EARTH GOES LESS THAN 50 MPH, IT WILL BLOW UP
1951. The Red Scare. The Cold War. These are just a few of the things the new remake does not have in common with the original. But still, being someone who really enjoyed the original, I think I may be one of the few who have been looking forward to this remake. I had a really great time with Spielberg's remake of THE WAR OF THE WORLD and had hope that this one would impress and deliver. I mean, I can imagine all of the social commentary that'll be present in this movie but I'm sure it'll be a bit less heavy-handed than THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW.
Keanu Reeves stars as Klaatu, an alien from another planet who arrives to Earth along with a super robot named Gort. Klaatu warns the people of Earth that if they do not maintain peace, Gort will have no choice but destroy the planet for his objective is to keep peace throughout the galaxy. I've never read the short story by Harry Bates, "Farewell to the Master," but there are reports and rumors that this remake may try and stay truer to the original short story than the 1951 film. I'm excited because although zombies, renegade biker gangs, a disease that blinds people, vampires, and an airborne virus can all destroy mankind, nothing beats an alien or an alien invasion. Enjoy the trailer. The film opens wide on December 12th along with the much anticipated TWILIGHT.
SKY CRAWLERS's 5-minute extended trailer
You might've caught the trailer that I posted for SKY CRAWLERS a few months back I think in March, but now I have a brand spankin' new 5-minute clip from the incredible looking new anime from the GHOST IN THE SHELL director Mamoru Oshii. There's not too many animes I get excited for nowadays. I love Japanese culture and have been studying Japanese for a couple years now but I was never all about the anime though I love several. The last mind blowing one I saw was TEKKON KINKREET, one that everyone should see. Well, here's the clip for SKY CRAWLERS which has a Japanese release date for August 2nd. Enjoy.
Trailer updates: BLINDNESS & THE DARK KNIGHT
You might remember the first trailer released for BLINDNESS about three or four months ago; it was a slightly different take on the whole end of the world, doomsday type film. Fernando Meirelles brings us his latest film about the population of the world loosing their sense of sight and how a group of blindness victims pull through. There's a new trailer finally out and well, I'm shocked, in a good way because it definitely seems to be taking a different route than I expected. Check it out below here.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE trailer; Question: Can a trailer capture all the love, angst, and badassery of the final film? This trailer answers yes...
...then it kicks your ass for asking such a stupid question! Here it is, the trailer for Bond #22, QUANTUM OF SOLACE. If you watched the first one and had any form of a working heart, then you most likely had adrenaline flowing through you for most of the film. I believe this film hopes to do the same only this time, sending you into cardiac arrest, in a good way (this film will not send you into cardiac arrest) (it might, I'm not sure, it would depend on pre-existing conditions or whether you have a medical emergency while watching the film). QUANTUM picks up right where CASINO ROYALE left off, with Bond catching Mr. White and finding out who it is he works for. If you saw THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY, which I highly recommend for it was one of the best I've seen, then you know who plays the villain in this film, Mathieu Amalric. Well, just watch the trailer and we'll talk about it later. Enjoy.
Chainsaw Maid; the zombie claymation short to rule all zombie claymation shorts
I find some great things online to post on the site but stop short thinking no one except me would be interested in them. Thus wass the case here. I remember seeing this YouTube short in the beginning of the year and thought it was the neatest claymation I'd seen in a while. I used to be a big fan of Knox's Korner and all other well crafted claymation shorts I could find. Takena is the creator of the short you are about to watch, Chainsaw Maid. Really good quality stuff. The pitch is simple. Father and daughter are at home being attended to by their maid when a bloodied woman comes to warn them about something. Check out Takena's YouTube page HERE. And also check out the above mentioned site, Knox's Korner. They've both got some great and funny stuff. Enjoy.
