MIA? Not really

I know you all will cringe at this news, but I assure that it's only temporary. I will be out of town for most of this week and won't be back until Friday or Saturday so that means no updates. I'm actually posting this while out of town though I swore I wouldn't. But for now, just enjoy this...

Sci-fi junkies should've found this great and the rest of you...probably didn't.
That's all for now, but I'll be back. Expect new updates, trailers, and information on M. Night Shyamalan's new live-action AVATAR adaptation when I return. Tata.

Behind-the-scenes of TWILIGHT

I have something. It's a behind-the-scenes exclusive that ET got of the new film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's New York Times Best Seller, "Twilight." YAY. The tentative release date for TWILIGHT has been set for December 12th of this year; I'm glad there's something to look forward to after the extreme comic book film blowout of this summer. Again, TWILIGHT is being directed by Catherine Hardwicke who has also directed THIRTEEN and LORDS OF DOGTOWN. I'm excited. You?
I guess I'm happy with the casting so far with Kristen Stewart playing Bella, and Robert Pattinson playing Edward. A friend of mine did mention how she would've really liked Emily Browning (A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS) to play Bella. Too bad, though Emily was a prime candidate for the role. She can next be seen in THE UNINVITED. Head below after the clip for a small gallery for my little star crush on Emily Browning.

You are not ready for this....seriously

If you're into Asian splatter cinema at all, you'll be interested in this. THE MACHINE GIRL came out a little while ago and the trailer basically looked like a stranger version of Robert Rodriguez's PLANET TERROR. Plainly, a girl's family is murdered by a band of Yakuza but decide to keep her alive, but not before slicing off her arm. She then goes on a revenge frenzy by killing them all not with a single gun or katana KILL BILL style...but by attaching a melee of different weapons to the stub of her arm. You haven't seen this trailer but please watch it below before you proceed and I show you the creators' next splatter extravaganza, TOKYO GORE POLICE.

THE MACHINE GIRL

Okay, so now that you've seen that gem, now for something a little less straight forward. This film has a plot, I'm almost certain, or at least that's what I'm convincing myself of. Somehow the plot revolves around a special police unit, demon creatures, blood, sexy women, blood, crocodiles, beheadings, and more blood. I'm really not quite sure how else to explain TOKYO GORE POLICE, so I guess I'll just let you make up your own assessment.
Due to scenes of extreme violence and nudity, please only view this trailer if you are over the age of 18

Is it just me or...
does that one creature with swords for legs look like something out of the Silent Hill games?

DVD ENTENDRE: Week of 04/01-08

Having skipped last week's because I was attacked off shore while scuba-diving, I just want to recap some of last weeks releases before I dive into this week's. Last week, along with musical screen gem SWEENEY TODD, the Unrated Edition of HAROLD & KUMAR, and the Blu-Ray version of UNBREAKABLE, an HBO series was released that I urge everyone to visit at least once, JOHN FROM CINCINNATI. JOHN is a great concept brought to us by the creator of DEADWOOD, David Milch. JOHN is a show about a supernatural being that comes into a family's life and what becomes of their meeting. The show is out there and demands patience, and I encourage it even if you are easily bored. This show deserves an audience but it's too bad it has been taken off the air. Also, a film that I've wanted to watch for some time THE GOOD NIGHT. The film stars Martin Freeman, (no relation to Morgan) who I first came to love in the the original UK version of THE OFFICE. Freeman's character has a peculiar dilemma in which he meets a woman who frequents his dreams at night, but when he actually meets her, she turns out to be the complete opposite of what he dreamed her to be. It doesn't hurt that the film also stars the woman of my dreams during my high school life, Penelope Cruz. Keep reading on for this week's DVD releases.

This week, we again have a nice bag of DVD treats. First, a film that I thought should've won the Oscar for Best Film, THERE WILL BE BLOOD. I absolutely loved NO COUNTRY, but I felt this film was definitely deserving for Best Film even though NO COUNTRY was best directed. I had close to no issues with this film and completely accepted the end of that third act that I know many people and critics had problems with. I won't spoil anything for you, but please, please, please, rent or buy this film. And if you have seen it and loved it like myself, there is a beautiful two disc edition that includes deleted scenes, selected photographs from the era by P.T. Anderson, as well as "The Story of Petroleum."
RESURRECTING THE CHAMP was a film that came and went and is a film I really have no interest in watching despite one gurgling recommendation by one friend. And on the opposite end of the enthusiasm spectrum is WALK HARD: THE DEWEY COX STORY. I really wanted to catch it in theaters but never did, and if you had the same happen to you, here's our chance. Also out this week, RESERVATION ROAD with Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Connelly, and Joaquin Phoenix. There was a Jack Nicholson film in the 90's that I believe had a very similar plot but I cannot remember the name. Anyhoo, be sure to catch this one about a husband/father (Ruffalo) who commits a hit and run as well as vehicular manslaughter. The father (Phoenix) of the victim, then slowly tries to investigate the murder of his son and catch the culprit.
The last two films I want to recommend this week are the Iraq war employed
LIONS FOR LAMBS with Cruise, Redford, and Streep (on screen gold for sure...right?). Lastly, a small film with OFFICE SPACE's fame, Ron Livingston. The film is of course is MUSIC WITHIN.

Is it just me or...is THERE WILL BE BUD just genius?

Looking forward to Blindness

Having just seen MICHAEL CLAYTON about a week ago, upon its completion, I thought about what films it reminded me of. THE CONSTANT GARDENER. Both are incredible films that are absolutely a thrill to watch. Well, the director of GARDENER, Fernando Merielles, also well known for the remarkable CITY OF GOD, has finally released a teaser for his new pseudo-apocalyptic film, BLINDNESS. I am...excited. There are just so many great films that come out every year that it almost seems like the year to come won't nearly be as good. Though, that notion was already put to rest when we first looked at the release schedules to 2008. THE DARK KNIGHT, THE HAPPENING, IRON MAN, HELLBOY II, INDIANA JONES, SPEED RACER...should I continue? My point is, along with BLINDNESS, I am hoping that these "End of the World" flicks become more than "End of the World" flicks. Sure CLOVERFIELD and I AM LEGEND were, in a sense, grand, but what I was waiting for were films like THE SIGNAL and Shyamalan's THE HAPPENING. Let's not have anymore DOOMSDAY's, but let visionary directors bring a form of art to the agony. BLINDNESS looks to be exactly what I am hoping for and to be coming from Fernando Meirelles is definitely a treat. Hit the jump below to see the teaser for BLINDNESS. I'm so excited !!

DVD ENTENDRE: Week of 03/25

A new bit I want to introduce onto GREENHOUSE is something I like to call, "DVD Entendre." It will run on Mondays and include DVD releases for the following day or the week that I think are worth buying, renting, or just checking out. Fair enough? Here we go. Well, HBO ran an original movie about four months ago that was absolutely incredible. The film, PU-239.It starred the always satisfying Paddy Considine as a Russian nuclear plant worker who gets exposed to extremely high levels of radiation and is ousted from the plant by higher-ups in order to cover-up the accident. Knowing that he has only a short time to live, Timofey (Considine) steals some weapons-grade plutonium in hopes to sell it to a black market dealer. Trouble ensues due to misunderstandings causing problems for Timofey and the black market dealer. HBO has a great track record when it comes to distributing great films and this one brings tradition. I very much loved the film and encourage everyone to at least rent PU-239. Read on for a few more DVD releases this week.

Another film I really liked and that is out on single disc DVD and Special Edition, THE MIST. Frank Darabont directs the theatrical version of Stephen King's chilling short story in which a small community becomes trapped in their neighborhood supermarket when a mysterious mist rolls through the town. Why are they trapped? Well, because there are also strange creatures in the mist and they get more and more incredible with each passing act. Although many (including myself) will describe the film and its antics as very "B-movie," I very much enjoyed it for what it was. And even though I could call the movie the entire way through, I was glad it concluded the way it did; just rent it and you'll see what I mean. And watching it in the theaters was absolutely great. Towards the end...the sheer size...jaw-dropping...just watch it.

Other films that we both should catch up with are THE KITE RUNNER, and WRISTCUTTERS: A Love Story.
Well, I might've missed the Oscar-nominated releases from the last two to three weeks, but now is as good a time as any to start because there is at least something great every week. So until next week's releases, go rent or buy the previously mentioned flick and thanks for joining me here on DVD ENTENDRE.

Is it just me or...does anyone else think that I'll probably change the title of this segment to something completely different?

(Insert choking related pun here)

This Sundance Channel clip of writer/director Clark Gregg was released some time ago but I find myself bringing it up in conversation with friends and they know nothing about it. So what better reason to post something if not to inform everyone. CHOKE, an original novel written by the infamous Chuck Palahniuk has gotten the big screen treatment and will be hitting theaters August 28th of this year. No trailer has been released thus far but I really enjoyed this clip of Gregg giving a little insight on his film as well as a few short clips of the film itself. Not having read this Palahniuk book, the only knowledge I have of CHOKE is from synopsizes given by friends. Hit the link below for the Sundance Channel clip of CHOKE.

From zombies to vampires

You do remember the movie UNDEAD, I'm sure of it. Well, as much as I wanted to like it...blah blah blah. Anyhoo, the two Spierig brothers that brought us that film are going in for their second feature, DAYBREAKERS. Though this time, I have a feeling they'll do a tad bit better. Why? Ethan Hawke, alongside Willem Dafoe, will be out fighting new age vampires who actually own a global corporation headed by none other than vampire President Dr. Alan Grant, I mean Sam Neil. Keep reading for more info and screens from DAYBREAKERS.

The film has already wrapped production and has been working post production for some time but piqued my interest back last summer. The actors aboard were all impressed with the new approach the Spierig brothers wanted to take on the vampire genre. Ya I know, every new vampire flick is supposed to take "a new approach on the genre," but this time I believe it's true. Taking place in 2017, the world has been taken over by vampires and their blood supply is now running low. I believe Hawke plays a scientist who sets out with an insurgent group of vampires to save humankind. YAY. I'll keep an eye out for the trailer
hopefully out in the next few weeks but for now enjoy these delightful screenshots. The film is set for a hopeful Autumn release.

Michael and Peter Spierig/Directing Duo
Ethan Hawke is Will Smith is a scientist
Same Neil looking Presidential in The Evil Office. Get it? Like The Oval Office.
I'd offer you some juice or something but grocery stores are always closed at night. I haven't been shopping in 20 years. Pity
It seems this person died

Is it just me or...can anyone else go for a vampire rom-com?

One trailer to rule them all ?!

I've been gone a long time. Some of you know why, some of you don't. The truth is I just wasn't updating the site. But now I'm out of that funk and I bring with me, TRAILERS. Oodles and oodles of 'em, well a few. During my short hiatus several of this summer's biggies released new trailers and as much as am awaiting all of their releases, only one of these trailers made me pee my pants (from excitement, not my overused bladder-related excuse). Rather than posting all these trailers separately on various posts, I'm just going to post them until I reach my maximum information limit. So without further ado, well, one more thing. Please, I know there isn't much on the site but I would appreciate all visitors to leave a comment or at least vote on the polls to the right--->; just any kind of feedback so I know I'm not posting to just one loser in Tunisia. Now, let's get on with the trailers. Like I hinted earlier about my favorite trailer, I want to start with SPEED RACER. That's right, SPEED RACER. If you're as happy as I am to see this, good, if not, then just keep your mouth shut and watch IRON MAN or something. Hit the jump below to see the rest of the batch.

Is it just me or...can you not stop watching that bed fall on Will Ferrell? Yep, you're going to watch it again right now aren't you? Yep, me too.
